What is Upacit XR 15 mg?

Upacit XR 15 mg is a generic extended-release formulation of Upadacitinib — a selective JAK-1 inhibitor — manufactured by Delta Pharma Ltd. under WHO-GMP certified conditions in Bangladesh. Each tablet contains 15 mg of upadacitinib, identical in active content to Rinvoq® (AbbVie), and is dispensed under the Named Patient Program.

Delta Pharma has built its DMARD portfolio over two decades — starting with Methotrax in 2004, followed by Reumaflex, Tofacit, and Baricit — with Upacit XR as its newest and most advanced JAK-inhibitor addition. Upadacitinib is a small molecule generic — not a biosimilar — taken orally once daily.

How Upadacitinib Works

In autoimmune conditions, an overactive JAK signalling pathway drives chronic inflammation, causing joint damage, skin inflammation, and systemic symptoms.

Upadacitinib selectively inhibits JAK-1, reducing inflammatory cytokine production with greater selectivity than older, non-selective JAK inhibitors. In the SELECT-COMPARE trial it demonstrated superior ACR50 response versus adalimumab (Humira) in rheumatoid arthritis. It is included in ACR and international dermatology/GI society guidelines as a recommended advanced therapy across its approved indications.

What to Expect: First 30 Days

Upadacitinib typically shows faster onset than biologics — many patients notice improvement within 2–4 weeks.

  • Before starting: TB screening, blood counts, liver function, and lipid panel are required.
  • Weeks 1–2: Early reduction in joint pain, stiffness, and skin symptoms is common.
  • Weeks 3–4: Blood counts and lipids are rechecked. Full response assessed at 12 weeks.

Standard dose: 15 mg once daily for most indications · higher inductions (30–45 mg) may apply for atopic dermatitis, ulcerative colitis, or Crohn’s disease per your physician’s plan. With or without food. Do not crush or chew — this destroys the extended-release mechanism.

  • 1
Once daily, same time each day — with or without food.
  • 2
Swallow whole with water. Never crush, split, or chew.
  • 3
Confirm TB screening is done before starting.
  • 4
If you miss a dose, take it the same day. Skip if nearly time for next dose.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Upacit XR a biosimilar?
No — it is a generic small-molecule drug. Upadacitinib is a chemically synthesised small molecule, not a biological protein. Delta Pharma’s generic version contains exactly the same active chemical compound as Rinvoq, produced to WHO-GMP quality standards.
What is the difference between Upacit XR and other upadacitinib brands on this site?
All upadacitinib brands stocked here (Upacit XR by Delta Pharma, Reucent XR by Incepta, Uparen by Renata, Upanib by Ziska, Rematib by Drug International) contain the same 15 mg extended-release upadacitinib active ingredient. The only differences are manufacturer and pack size. Contact us to confirm which brand is currently in stock for your country.
Why is TB screening mandatory?
JAK inhibitors including upadacitinib can cause latent TB to reactivate. A tuberculin skin test or IGRA blood test must confirm negative status (or latent TB must be treated) before starting — this is a mandatory safety requirement, not optional.
