What is Ninacent 150 mg?

Ninacent 150 mg is a generic soft gel capsule formulation of Nintedanib (as nintedanib esylate) โ€” a triple angiokinase inhibitor โ€” manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd., a WHO-GMP certified pharmaceutical company based in Bangladesh. Each capsule contains 150 mg of nintedanib, the same active molecule as in OFEVยฎ (Boehringer Ingelheim), and is dispensed under the Named Patient Program.

Nintedanib has two distinct uses: slowing progressive lung fibrosis (IPF, progressive fibrosing ILD, and SSc-ILD), and โ€” in combination with docetaxel โ€” treating certain adenocarcinoma non-small cell lung cancers after prior chemotherapy. Confirm with your prescriber which indication applies to you, as dosing differs between the two.

How Nintedanib Works

In progressive fibrosing lung disease, overactive growth-factor signalling drives fibroblast proliferation and abnormal tissue remodelling, progressively stiffening lung tissue. In NSCLC, the same signalling pathways drive tumour angiogenesis.

Nintedanib blocks three related receptor families simultaneously โ€” VEGFR 1โ€“3, PDGFR ฮฑ/ฮฒ, and FGFR 1โ€“3 โ€” plus the non-receptor kinases Src, Lck, and Lyn. In IPF and SSc-ILD, this reduces fibroblast activation and slows the rate of lung function decline (it does not reverse existing scarring). In NSCLC, combined with docetaxel, it inhibits tumour angiogenesis. The pivotal INPULSIS and SENSCIS trials established its efficacy in IPF and SSc-ILD respectively; LUME-Lung 1 established the NSCLC combination regimen. View FDA Prescribing Information โ†’

What to Expect: First 30 Days

Nintedanib slows disease progression rather than producing dramatic early symptom relief โ€” gastrointestinal side effects are the most noticeable early change.

  • Before starting: baseline liver function tests and (for females of reproductive potential) a pregnancy test are required.
  • Week 1โ€“2: Diarrhoea is very common and often the first side effect noticed โ€” stay well hydrated and tell your doctor if it is severe or persistent.
  • Weeks 3โ€“4: Liver function is rechecked. Nausea and appetite changes often stabilise as the body adjusts.

Side Effects

Diarrhoea is the most common side effect and can usually be managed without stopping treatment. Always report new or worsening symptoms to your prescriber.

Common ยท Usually Manageable

  • Diarrhoea (very common)
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Decreased appetite, weight loss
  • Elevated liver enzymes
  • Headache

Serious ยท Report Immediately

  • Gastrointestinal perforation
  • Arterial thromboembolic events (MI, stroke)
  • Significant bleeding
  • Severe hepatotoxicity
  • Impaired wound healing
โš  Go to A&E or call your doctor immediately if you experience:
  • Sudden severe abdominal pain
  • Chest pain, breathing difficulty, or unusual sweating
  • One-sided weakness, numbness, or trouble speaking
  • Yellowing of skin/eyes or tea-coloured urine

How to Take Ninacent 150 mg

Standard dose for IPF, ILD, and SSc-ILD: 150 mg twice daily, about 12 hours apart, with food. Mild hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh A): reduce to 100 mg twice daily. NSCLC combination regimen follows a specific cycle schedule set by your oncologist โ€” do not adjust either regimen without medical guidance.

  • 1
Take with food โ€” this improves tolerability and is required, not optional.
  • 2
Swallow whole with water. Never chew or crush โ€” the capsule contents are bitter and the release profile is affected.
  • 3
Note any peanut or soya allergy before starting โ€” the capsule shell contains soya lecithin.
  • 4
If you miss a dose, skip it and resume at the next scheduled time โ€” do not double up. Maximum daily dose (150 mg regimen) is 300 mg.
  • 5
Storage: below 25ยฐC, in original packaging, away from light and moisture.

Caregiver Guidance

  • โ™ฅ
Watch for jaundice: yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, or unusual bruising should be reported to the treating doctor promptly โ€” liver monitoring is part of routine care.
  • โ™ฅ
Support hydration during diarrhoea episodes โ€” this is the most common reason patients need dose adjustment, and staying ahead of it with fluids helps avoid interruption to treatment.
  • โ™ฅ
Track weight weekly โ€” unintentional weight loss is common and worth flagging early to the care team.

If the Disease Continues to Progress

Unlike targeted cancer therapies, nintedanib does not reverse existing lung scarring โ€” it slows the rate of decline. If lung function continues to worsen despite adherence, your pulmonologist may reassess for lung transplant candidacy, clinical trial eligibility, or combination with antifibrotic agents under specialist care. For the NSCLC indication, disease progression on the docetaxel + nintedanib regimen is assessed by imaging per standard oncology restaging intervals, with next-line therapy selected based on prior treatment history and current guidelines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ninacent a cancer drug or a lung disease drug?
Both, depending on the prescription. Nintedanib’s primary use is slowing progressive lung fibrosis (IPF, progressive fibrosing ILD, SSc-ILD). It is separately approved, in combination with docetaxel chemotherapy, for certain previously-treated non-small cell lung cancers. The dose and schedule differ significantly between the two uses โ€” always follow your specific prescription.
What is the difference between Ninacent and other nintedanib brands in Bangladesh?
Ninacent (Incepta), Nindanix (Beacon Pharmaceuticals), Nintib (Eskayef), and Nifev (Unimed & Unihealth) all contain the same active ingredient, nintedanib, at equivalent strengths. The difference is manufacturer and capsule sourcing. Contact us to confirm current stock for your country.
Why does the capsule matter for people with a peanut or soy allergy?
Nintedanib soft gel capsules are formulated using soya lecithin. Patients with known hypersensitivity to peanut or soya products should not take this medicine and should discuss alternatives with their prescriber.
