Description

Sofosbuvir-400mg and Velpatasvir-100mg is a single-pill combination regimen with potent activity against Hepatitis-C virus genotypes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Panovir is a useful option for patients with HCV genotype 3 infection, including those with compensated cirrhosis without the Y93H resistance-associated variant. Panovir can be safely used in people with decompensated cirrhosis, and its levels can be significantly reduced with acid-reducing agents.

Hepatitis-C is a viral infection causing liver inflammation, causing acute and chronic symptoms. It can lead to liver damage, cirrhosis, and cancer. HCV is spread through contact with infected blood, unsafe medical procedures, and sexual transmission, though it is less common.

Indications

The fixed-dose combination of Sofosbuvir 400mg-Velpatasvir 100mg is FDA-approved for treating chronic Hepatitis-C genotypes 1 to 6. Panovir is prescribed for the following patient groups:
– Patients without cirrhosis and those with compensated cirrhosis (Child-Pugh A): sofosbuvir-velpatasvir for 12 weeks.
– Patients with decompensated cirrhosis (Child-Pugh B and C): sofosbuvir-velpatasvir plus ribavirin for 12 weeks.

Mechanism of Action for Panovir

panovir is a combination of two medications that come in one pill. Panovir contains sofosbuvir, which is a medicine that helps fight the Hepatitis-C virus (HCV) by blocking a protein the virus needs to multiply, and velpatasvir, which is a medicine that blocks another protein that the virus needs to grow. Sofosbuvir is approved for treating HCV of genotypes 1-6 in the United States. Velpatasvir, also known as GS-5816, is a new type of medication that works against all HCV genotypes at very low levels. The combination of these two medications is the first single-tablet regimen for Hepatitis-C that can be taken once a day and works against all types of HCV.

Dosage and Administration

Panovir is a medication that comes in a single-pill combination of sofosbuvir 400 mg and velpatasvir 100 mg. Panovir is taken once daily, with or without food. The recommended dose for panovir  is one tablet per day.

If you have any degree of renal impairment or end-stage renal disease on dialysis, there is no need to adjust the dosage. This recommendation was made based on safety and pharmacokinetic data from mostly observational studies.

If you have mild, moderate, or severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class A, B, or C), there is no need to adjust the dosage for sofosbuvir-velpatasvir. However, if you have decompensated cirrhosis and are receiving sofosbuvir-velpatasvir and ribavirin, clinical and laboratory monitoring is recommended.
