What is Panovir?
Panovir is a generic fixed-dose combination tablet of Sofosbuvir 400 mg and Velpatasvir 100 mg โ a pangenotypic direct-acting antiviral regimen โ manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. under WHO-GMP certified conditions in Bangladesh. It is the same active combination as Epclusa® (Gilead Sciences), approved for adults and children 3 years and older with chronic Hepatitis C.
Panovir treats all six major HCV genotypes with a single regimen โ genotype testing to select a genotype-specific drug is not required, which simplifies treatment considerably compared to older HCV regimens.

How Sofosbuvir and Velpatasvir Work
Hepatitis C virus depends on two viral proteins to replicate: NS5B polymerase, which copies viral RNA, and NS5A, which coordinates RNA replication and assembly of new virus particles.
What to Expect: First 30 Days
Unlike older interferon-based HCV therapy, this regimen is generally well tolerated โ most patients continue normal daily activities throughout treatment.
- Before starting: HCV genotype and viral load, liver function, and Hepatitis B screening (HBsAg and anti-HBc) are required โ HBV can reactivate during DAA therapy in co-infected patients.
- Weeks 1โ2: Mild fatigue, headache, or nausea may occur but rarely require dose changes.
- Weeks 3โ4: Viral load is often rechecked to confirm early virologic response; liver function continues to be monitored.
Side Effects
This regimen is one of the best-tolerated HCV treatments available. Serious reactions are uncommon but require prompt reporting.
Common ยท Usually Manageable
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Nausea
- Insomnia
- Diarrhoea
- Irritability
Serious ยท Report Immediately
- Hepatitis B reactivation (if co-infected)
- Serious bradycardia (if combined with amiodarone)
- Marked elevation in liver enzymes
- Allergic reaction
- Fainting, severe dizziness, or a very slow or irregular heartbeat, especially if you take amiodarone
- Yellowing of skin or eyes, or unusually dark urine
- Signs of a severe allergic reaction (facial swelling, difficulty breathing)
How to Take Panovir
Standard dose: one tablet once daily, with or without food, for 12 weeks (without cirrhosis or with compensated cirrhosis) or 24 weeks with ribavirin (decompensated cirrhosis, per your hepatologist). Completing the full prescribed course is essential โ stopping early risks treatment failure and drug resistance.
- 1Same time each day โ with or without food.
- 2Swallow whole โ do not chew or crush the tablet.
- 3Complete the entire course exactly as prescribed, even once you feel well โ never stop early without your doctor’s guidance.
- 4If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered on the same day. If it’s already close to the next dose, skip it โ never double up.
Caregiver Guidance
- โฅSupport daily adherence โ missing doses across a 12โ24 week course is the leading cause of treatment failure. A daily reminder or pill organiser helps.
- โฅWatch for bradycardia symptoms if the patient also takes amiodarone โ fainting, extreme fatigue, or a very slow pulse needs urgent medical review.
- โฅWatch for jaundice โ yellowing skin or eyes, or dark urine, should be reported to the treating doctor promptly.
