What is Nintedanib?
Ninacent 150 (Nintedanib 150 mg Capsule) is a prescription medicine used to treat the following conditions according to the fda approval
- Adult patients with a lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
- Patients with long lasting interstitial lung disease in which lung fibrosis continues to worsen.
- To slow the rate of decline in lung function in people with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD) (also known as scleroderma-associated ILD).
- It is not known if the medicine is effective in children.
What should I tell my doctor before taking Nintedanib 150 mg?
Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions, medicines including prescription, non-prescription, and supplements you are taking. Tell your doctor before taking Ninacent if you have
- Liver problems.
- Heart problems.
- History of blood clots.
- Have a family history of bleeding problems.
- Recent surgery in the stomach.
- Smoking habit.
How should I take Nintedanib Capsule?
- Take the capsule according to the prescription issued by a licensed oncologist or a healthcare provider.
- Your doctor will tell you when and how much you have to take. Dose can be different depending on the patient’s health and medical condition.
- Take the medication with food and swallow the whole capsule with water.
- The maximum daily dosage of Nintedanib is 300 mg. Do not take more than that.
- Do not chew or crush the capsule.
- Do not take more or less, and do not miss a dose. Do not take an overdose to make up for the missed dose.
- If you take an overdose immediately call your doctor, they may suggest other medication to reduce the toxicity of the overdose.
- Your doctor will do certains blood test before starting treatment.
What are the possible side effects of Nintedanib?
Nintedanib may cause serious side effects including
- Liver problems: Tell your doctor immediately if you have unexplained symptoms like yellowing of your skin or white part of your eyes (jaundice), tea colored urine, pain in the upper right side of your stomach area, bleeding or bruising more easily than normal. Your doctor will do a blood test to check your liver functionality during and after the treatment. Regular monitoring is necessary to reduce the risk of this serious effect.
- Diarrhea, nausea and vomiting: If you see any of these symptoms, tell your doctor right away. Drink sufficient amounts of water and liquid food to keep your body hydrated. If the condition is serious or diarrhea does not stop after two or three days, the doctor may suggest loperamide or other over the counter anti-diarrheal medicines to stop diarrhea.
- Heart attack: Tell your doctor right away if you feel pain in the chest, breathing problems, low blood pressure or unusual sweating.
- Stroke: Tell your doctor right away if you feel any of these side effects, trouble in talking, feeling numbness on 1 side of your body, headache and dizziness. Precaution may reduce the risk of stroke.
- Bleeding problems: Tell your doctor right away if you have bleeding problems or a family history of bleeding problems, symptoms may include easily bruising or bleeding, red spots on the arms and legs, bleeding gums after brushing teeth. Be careful of bleeding problems during the treatment. A check up of your blood before starting the medication is necessary.
- Tear in your stomach or intestinal wall.
Nintedanib in pregnancy
If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, Nintedanib is not recommended for you. Though there is a lack of information and evidence in human trials, in animal trials it was found that this medication may cause harm to your fetus in the womb. Consult with your doctor or healthcare provider before taking the medication.
Nintedanib in breastfeeding
Like pregnant women, breastfeeding women also should not take this medication. Chemicals of Nintedanib may pass through the breast milk and harm the infant. Consult your doctor before taking the medication or inform them you are breastfeeding.
Effective contraception is mandatory while taking Nintedanib Capsule
Use proper contraception while taking this medication. It will help in preventing birth control during the treatment.

Nintedanib is available as Ninacent in Bangladesh, which comes in two strengths 100 mg and 150 mg. It has also been approved by the drug administration of Thailand, Phillipines, India and other South East Asian countries. It has also been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), European Medicines Agency (EMA).
